Spring, Summer, Autumn….. Anyone ?

So I took a few days off stayed at the farm. So now I’m just wondering, is it Spring, Summer or Autumn, because I know the plant life is completely confused, as am I. The weather says it’s definitely summer, but its mid October, another 2 weeks and we change to wintertime!!!.

Anyway, the passion fruit is full of new flowers ready to open, some of them have already opened and have even produced new fruit, wonder if they’re going to get ripe before the cold weather sets in!.

I went for a little walk around the property and came across loads of chestnuts on the floor, so I picked them up and took them home to make some nice roasted chestnuts for after dinner. I think there was about 1.5 kilos from the one trip. I have to point out that these are all 100% biological, in other words, the trees are not sprayed with insecticides or pesticides, so they do have beasties in them, I just eat the good parts and throw the rest out.

Apart from the chestnuts, the olives needed harvesting, and so I got 2kilos worth of olives, I wasn’t allowed to get a ladder to climb to the top of the tree to harvest the rest, or else I would have probably had closer to 4kilos of olives. So now we (read my mum) are going to cure them and then we mostly use them for tapanada, yumm.

The mushrooms are also starting to appear, this one is growing on an old tree root.
