Organizing & Storage

Recently I saw some really helpful posts on Ravelry on how other people store their yarn stash. I finally decided to do something about mine, as it’s all over the place and I can never find what I’m looking for.

So I went to Ikea and bought some nylon storage boxes with lids that fit perfectly into the bookshelf I have in the living room.

I bought 6 of these as well as a bigger storage box which I’ll use for my fabrics; one identical to the one in the picture only half it’s height either to store my knitting needles and notions or to put my WIPS in; and two other boxes also half the height of the one pictured that are white and have some flower motifs on them that were in the “bargain basement” section so I got them for cheap.

Next week I have a couple of days off, so I’m going to sort my stash, photograph it all, and then store it in these new boxes which hold a lot (I’ve already stuffed two of them full with yarn that was on my dining room table). All I need to do once I have everything photographed and put away is make some labels so I know exactly what type of yarn is in what box. I’m most likely going to be categorizing by yarn type, so all lace in one box, all sock/fingering in another and so on. I’ll have one box with my special yarns so they don’t get mixed up with the rest.

Once it’s all sorted and stored I’ll post some more pics.
